Wednesday included in-person and virtual opportunities to join the Design Team as concept components continue to be developed. Community members joined the various sessions to provide continued input and ask questions.

Ideas from the community included incorporating community gardens, providing more athletic fields, bringing in additional casual dining experiences, and programming space for community activities such as farmer’s markets and holiday festivals.

Questions asked included wanting to know about the next steps for this project, how this could be phased, and learning more about the market analysis. The Design Team responded to these questions with the following:

• Next Steps: the immediate next step is this Saturday, October 22 at the Reimagine Security Square Workshop where community members will see the results of the Design Open House and have a chance to discuss what they like, don’t like, and provide input on elements to be refined. From that workshop, the Design Team will develop up to three full concepts that will be shared at the November 2 Design Refinement Meeting.
• Project Phasing: After Saturday’s workshop, and throughout the remainder of the project process, the Design Team will review the scenarios to understand phasing and implementation strategies. These will be presented within the final report. The detailed concept and final report are anticipated by the end of February 2023.
• Market Analysis: Full copies of the Market Analysis are available for review during the Design Open House and all upcoming meetings. The analysis identified additional opportunities at the location based on what the market is anticipated to support. These include additional office / flexible working space, residential units, retail and restaurant, and even the potential for a hotel.

Everyone is encouraged to continue to provide input during the remaining two Design Open House sessions and to participate in Saturday’s workshop. The workshop is from 9:00 AM through 4:00 PM and is intended for participants to stop in any time during the day to review the concepts and share their input.
